THE WORLD THROUGH A PAIR OF EYEGLASSES...

This visible and tangible world -people, objects, or situations- hides another world that can be seen through a pair of particular eyeglasses: my eyeglasses. Through them -and art- I attempt to rescue the satirical essence of everything around me. Pencils and brushes are my preferred tools to dissect people and events through a combination of passion and a lot of criticism. I create exaggerated shapes and lines, adding lights and shadows, to bring out the essence of my subjects, using humor as an additional means to alter -or confirm- the viewer's perception of people or events. Some of my work is filled with intricate details, while other pieces are produced with simple pencil and brush strokes where whimsical ideas, thoughts, or concepts take precedent. Through this combination of shapes and meanings I use art as a source of thought and laughter.

I am an award-winning multimedia artist who makes illustrations, caricatures and cartoon images covering a broad spectrum of subjects and ideas. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, I moved to Florida, in 1991. I have been working as a caricaturist and illustrator for the publishing industry since 1978. I studied drawing and painting with several well-known artists in Uruguay, and I attended the School of Humanities, University of Uruguay, in Art History. Furthermore, I have added silkscreen, photography, and computer graphics as complements to my art education.

EL MUNDO A TRAVES DE UN PAR DE GAFAS...

Este mundo visible, tangible -gente, objetos o situaciones- esconde otro mundo que puede ser visto a traves de unos espejuelos muy particulares: mis espejuelos. A traves de ellos -y del arte- intento rescatar lo satirico que existe en todo lo que me rodea. Lapices y pinceles son mis herramientas preferidas para disecar personas o eventos, a traves de una combinacion de pasion y mucho criticismo. Exagerando formas y lineas, agregando luces y sombras, busco resaltar lo esencial en mis personajes. Usando un toque de humor, como elemento adicional, busco alterar -o confirmar- la percepcion que tiene el espectador sobre determinada persona o evento. Algunos de mi trabajos son realizados con intricados detalles, mientras que otros son producidos con simples trazos donde caprichosas ideas, pensamientos o conceptos toman precedente. A traves de esta combinacion de forma y contenido, uso el arte para que la gente piense y tambien sonria.

Soy un artista multimedia, premiado en diversas oportunidades, que realiza ilustraciones y caricaturas que cubren un amplio espectro de temas e ideas. Nacido en Montevideo, Uruguay, me trasladé al sur de la Florida, USA, en 1991. He estado trabajando como caricaturista e ilustrador para la industria editorial desde 1978. Estudie dibujo y pintura con varios artistas de renombre en Uruguay, tanto como asisti a la Facultad de Humanidades, Universidad del Uruguay, para estudiar Historia del Arte. Ademas, he agregado serigrafia, fotografia, computacion y diseno grafico como complementos para mi formacion artistica.
